EcoFriendly Green Holidays and great Jazz Music

We are all just coming off a huge holiday weekend with plenty of travel, entertainment and leftovers! I am making this observation of so much indulgence, now I wonder if over the next four weeks we might consider opportunities to recycle and reuse garments, try shopping vintage for holiday frocks, and make a real effort to support social consciousness in our purchasing. During the mania that follows ‘black Friday’ and throughout the remainder of these shopping days till Christmas we can all create an eco friendly purchasing plan and make it a green holiday.

A few brands that are using organic materials and/or making contributions to various charitable causes by donating a % of proceeds of sales this season are listed below. Check them out for gift giving fashion ideas:

I mentioned the Eileen Fisher, Inc. fair trade turtleneck top in organic cotton knit three weeks ago. It is finally here in the store. This is a great gift idea for any one who loves to support social consciousness programs which are a big part of our mission at EF.
High in the mountains of rural Peru, a small workshop of women makes our latest Fair Trade, Certified Organic Cotton sweaters. Check them out on line

My biggest coup this week was in finding a jewelry designer who is going to melt down some old gold that I do not wear any longer and use the reclaimed gold to re build an antique piece of jewelry from my grandmother. I had two things that she gifted me long before her death, a ring and a pin. Eva is going to melt everything down into one great ring design and reset the stone making it more contemporary and wearable. It will be a one of a kind for sure and worn as a reminder of my relationship with my grandmother. Talk about a great way to recycle old rings and things I certainly have found it.

Hot tips for learning this week, I have two books I would recommend if you want to learn more about conscious capitalism. The first is by Patricia Aburdene, the title is Megatrends 2010 The Rise of Conscious Capitalism and the second is The Rough Guide to Shopping with a Conscience by Duncan Clark & Richie Unterberger.

My music recap for this week is to suggest the gift of music, buy tickets to attend any of the shows at Scullers Jazz Club. I had the good fortune of having multiple sets of tickets for this past weekend to see Chris Botti live in Cambridge at Scullers. This venue is world class and this jazz virtuoso plays with a band that is not to be believed. Check him out at
www.chrisbotti.com and buy his latest CD Italia released six weeks ago by Columbia. Check out other upcoming jazz shows at Scullers (617) 562-4111.

Famous Lisa Retail One Liners- A customer asks, “How does Bloomingdales effect your business when they are in the same mall as your boutique?” I throw back my head and laugh, "Please contine to buy the brand, buy it everywhere and buy it often, this is how I stay employed."
