11/11/07 Resort Collections, Color Stories and Sparkle

Welcome to my style blog, it will be updated from now through the end of the year every Sunday.

Resort Collections of every major designer have arrived. Resort product have begun shipping into all the department stores. If New England weather proves to be typical this year, we normally would not be looking at these as 'wear now' pieces. I challenge you however, to go see some of these collections and pick some functional separates in resorts' fantastic color options. These pieces of color can work back into your base neutrals that you have been collecting over the years such as black, grey, navy, camel and chocolate. Resort equals layer, after layer, after layer. Layer Up!

You want to consider getting out of the seasonal box with color that will impress even the Pantone Color Institute. Yet if you are feeling shy about color start by picking one color and pile it up in hues. Some great combinations are hot pink and regal purple. Vivid blue and orange or pair pink with orange and have fun with the experiment of it all. Hues of color such as rich blues, navy, royal blue and indigo can sharpen up your charcoal or heather gray suiting very easily. Consider that a single color purchase such as lilac can be wore under a brown, olive or navy suit. In spring it can work with cream and white.

Color basics such as cotton Ts, mittens, scarf options, and easy fine gauge cashmere sweaters need to be replenished every year. For less expensive options go to some of my favorites: J Crew, Benetton, American Apparel, GAP and try even Target. Of course you can find major pops of color at Eileen Fisher. From our December resort collection we have rosette, sunset, hydrangea, mimosa and citrine. www.eileenfisher.com.

My big inside tip of the week is that sparkle is the ultimate color. Eileen Fisher, Inc. has an offering that is 80% silk 20% cotton and shaped as a cropped cardigan w/ 3/4 sleeves in sequined sparkle.A galaxy of hand-sewn sequins—some matte, some shiny—shimmers on this sophisticated cardigan. This piece looks so rich- it is as if gold quartz got sparkled over fine fabric in a color called woodland. Very forest, very earthly. This piece retails at $398.00 and is a must see and a must have.

And my final call out for color is to go to GAP and support Project Red www.joinred.com . Pick up a great red pop piece to funk up any wardrobe and give support to a great cause. www.gap.com/red.

For all you women shopping for men this season, or for my male pals out there I want to introduce my 'guy' connection, Andrew Morris at Nordstrom Natick Collection in The Rail. He is a great resource to help with any male fashion questions and purchases. Call him at 508-318-2600 ext. 1530 to make a shopping appointment.

Lisa's famous retail one-liners "Ma'am don't be ridiculous take that off we are going to start all over again."
Until next week....
